A boat carrying a small acting company, together with a group of dangerous members of Camorra, wrecks on the shores of the island prison, Asinara, shortly after WWII. The director of the prison cannot distinguish the criminals from the actors. He has them to put on a play– a play that will tell him who the actors are.
